I find great satisfaction in the fact that I have made public oral health my calling in life. I also feel privileged to very much love my city, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Despite the fact that we are a liberal and progressive city, however, we still have many poor or low income people. As a dental student, even before, I would frequently observe individuals with very poor oral health in the street, the workplace, etc. For this reason, I have been especially engaged with the issue of education ever since I began dental school and very much look forward to learning new techniques and creative ideas in your program.
Since I was in high school, I have been actively engaged in providing food and clothing to the poor in my city who are in need. Thus, it was natural for me to stay very active as a volunteer in dental school as well. Throughout my years in dental school, we would go out into the community, schools, often at shopping malls, trying to educate as many people as we could about the need for adequate oral hygiene and health care. Especially with foreigners, mostly guest workers from Africa or the Philippines; I would often notice that their oral health was very poor.
I am particularly concerned about our large immigrant workforce, with guest workers coming from all over. These workers generally postpone dental care for some point in the future, especially since it is seldom paid for through their employer. I feel very strongly that it is wrong for us for employ so many people, bringing them from their country of origin to a strange new place, and to not provide for their oral health needs. This is why I hope very much to be selected for a general dentistry residency position in advanced education. I look forward to a complete immersion that includes a great deal of exposure to the latest techniques and issues in dentistry education.
We also completed many successful campaigns in schools; and I want very much to be a part of education programs for children and young people, in particular, so as to raise our oral health awareness in sustainable ways and across generation. I look forward to giving my all for many decades to my patients, always laboring to provide the patient with the best treatment available on the cutting edge of dental care, and to educate as many people in the community as I possibly can about the need for preventive care.
I hope to be successful in the future with my own clinic, and to constantly reinvest in my service, especially with an eye towards increasing the amount of service that I will be able to provide free of charge. I also have professional dreams of launching my own non-profit organization that would be dedicated to organizing dentists in my community to assist in providing adequate care for the underserved, providing them with dentures, restorations, etc.
I want to thank you for considering my application to your program.
