I visited my father's dental clinic every Friday after school as I grew up in Korea. I would often go to see my aunt and uncle, who also ran a dental clinic. I feel as if the practice of dentistry is in my blood, part of my heritage. I am privileged to have grown up in a family of professionals dedicated to delivering compassionate care, and I am thankful that they taught me to treasure the ideal of making significant, daily contributions to improving the lives of others, especially helping them to have greater confidence and self-esteem. Thus, I seek to carry on the family tradition here in North America, where we have lived for the last 13 years, and contribute to our community.

For over a decade, I have maintained a conceptual continuity in my academic, professional, and volunteer activities, all geared toward the lifelong investigation of Biomedical Engineering and the practice of Dentistry with a humanitarian emphasis. I have made great strides in developing my manual dexterity, analytical thinking skills, and empathy, coupled with my compassion for others. Earning my DDS will enable me to realize my lifelong dream of serving our community.

I envision myself as someone who is diligently working towards establishing a robust academic foundation that will serve as the cornerstone for a lifetime dedicated to research and the advancement of innovative practices within the field of dentistry. My ambition is to seamlessly integrate groundbreaking research with the study and implementation of philanthropic initiatives that can have a meaningful impact on communities in need. One of my primary goals is to open a dental clinic that focuses specifically on providing comprehensive and compassionate care to members of immigrant and minority communities. This clinic would not only offer essential dental services but also work towards alleviating the financial burdens that often accompany healthcare.

I aim to create a system that assists patients in navigating their financial options, ensuring that high-quality dental care is accessible to everyone, regardless of their economic situation. Moreover, I am deeply committed to educating these communities about the significance of preventative dental care and promoting community awareness regarding the importance of maintaining good dental hygiene. Through workshops, informational sessions, and outreach programs, I hope to empower individuals with the knowledge they need to take charge of their oral health, thereby fostering a culture of prevention rather than reaction. My individual experiences as an immigrant have profoundly shaped my understanding of the unique challenges faced by immigrant and minority families. This background has instilled in me a heightened sensitivity to their specific needs, and it positions me uniquely to advocate for and support these communities effectively. I recognize that many individuals in these groups may face language barriers, cultural differences, and financial hardships, and I am determined to address these obstacles head-on through my work. In addition to my clinical aspirations.

I intend to maintain a rigorous and active research regimen throughout my career. I plan to collaborate with other professionals in the fields of dentistry and public health, engaging in research that explores innovative treatment methods, community health strategies, and the social determinants of health that affect dental care access. By contributing to the body of knowledge in these areas, I hope to drive change that not only enhances patient care but also informs policies that benefit underserved populations. Furthermore, I aspire to serve as a role model for other Asians and individuals from diverse backgrounds, inspiring them to pursue careers in dentistry and public health. I believe that representation matters, and by demonstrating my commitment to innovative contributions and community service, I hope to encourage others to embark on similar paths. My vision is to cultivate a new generation of professionals who understand the importance of giving back to their communities and who are motivated to make significant contributions to the field of dentistry and beyond.
