Like many others, I chose dentistry because of positive firsthand experiences. As a child, I had a gap between my front teeth, which affected my confidence and made me reluctant to smile. After many consultations, an X-Ray was taken, and the problem was identified as diastema caused by an extra tooth pulled. I was then referred to an orthodontist for fitting a removable appliance. After several months, I was left with a great smile, undying gratitude for the dental surgeon and orthodontist, and an ardent desire to provide others with the confidence that comes with a pleasing smile. My final high school examination score was an exceptional 96%, meaning I would be accepted into any school to study anything significant. Still, I never wavered in my decision to pursue dentistry. I was awarded my BDS degree at the prestigious dental faculty of Aleppo University. The training was highly challenging and comprehensive, provided by an impressive faculty of skilled and dedicated dentists and specialists. The program offered early and constant exposure to patients presenting with extremely varied problems and symptoms; there was an emphasis on developing diagnostic skills, treatment planning, and cross-disciplinary cooperation. I was exposed to all the specialties. I thoroughly enjoyed the program and sought from the outset to excel rather than succeed merely. My results provide evidence of my success in achieving this goal; I graduated top of my class with a GPA of 3.67. I practiced in Syria for only five months when I had to leave the country because of the dangers Christians, such as myself, faced and the destruction of my home. Since coming to the US, I have sought as much exposure to US dentistry as possible, initially by shadowing dentists and dental assistants in several practices and, currently, by working as a volunteer dental assistant in extensive and busy training. During the last three months, I have worked as a Dental Assistant coordinator, learned how to organize, and store charts, become familiar with several dental software programs, and gained experience working with a periodontal specialist and an oral surgeon. This exposure has given me a good understanding of US dentistry and related administration. It has also broadened my knowledge of implants, which is particularly interesting. Voluntary work of various kinds began in high school, and I have been raised to regard such work as a duty rather than a choice. I was involved in a Christian youth organization that provided activities for orphan children and visits and activities for the elderly in care centers. After graduation and the onset of the civil war, I volunteered for the Red Cross. I was involved with several friends in moving patients and bodies and occasionally providing necessary treatments to victims. I have been left with deep impressions of those experiences that have made me even more determined to undertake voluntary work for those less fortunate than myself. Since moving to the US, I have worked as a Red Cross volunteer in the Blood Drive Center and sometimes as an interpreter for Arabic speakers.  In the future, I intend to sacrifice some of my time providing free treatment to the underprivileged members of society to repay the US for its kindness in providing a haven for myself and my family. Since arriving in the US, I have worked and socialized with people from many social and ethnic backgrounds. Since arriving in the US, I have worked and associated with people from many social and ethnic backgrounds. I enjoy sharing knowledge of my own culture and learning about others. I get on quickly with people and have a well-developed sense of humor. My goal is to open a community dental clinic. I would seek to become a natural part of the local community and extend preventative training in oral and dental hygiene, diet, etc., by creating close and positive relations locally, especially with schools. My graduation research project dealt with suture types and the healing process after oral surgery. I am particularly interested in implants and periodontal dentistry and hope that I might assist in research in one of these areas within the program. I can confidently assure the reader that, if selected, I shall apply myself enthusiastically and diligently to the program. My academic and professional career will ensure my exceptional potential to excel within it. Thank you for considering my application. • CAAPID Application Iranian Dentist Example

Iranian born and raised in my native Tehran, Iran, I always excelled in school, studying at a National School for the Gifted and Talented. I was eager to excel and focus on dentistry incredibly early on since I was inspired by several relatives who are dentists. As a child, I began shadowing my uncles and dentists whenever I had the opportunity. When it came time for me to enroll in dental school, everyone wanted me to study dentistry in English, thinking about my long-term advancement. Yet, for us, there were very few options. After extensive research and discussion, we decided on the Philippines because the entire dental curriculum was in English. Thus, I went to the Philippines to study dentistry. My family facilitated my time in the Philippines, and I am part of Iran’s small Christian minority. The Philippines is a Christian country, and I was met with great solidarity. I rejoiced that most of my fellow students and professors were Christian. This helped me bond quickly with my professors and opened doors to opportunities to help them with their research. They also invited me to go with their groups on dental missions to provide free treatment to the many underserved in the Philippines. International students in our university selected me as the Vice president of our student association. As a part of the curriculum in my dental school, we worked in different public hospitals shadowing dentists in the dental wards and becoming familiar with dental public health issues and hospital dentistry. In this way, my interest in general oral health and a concern for those who depend on public hospitals was cultivated since the beginning of my studies in dentistry. After graduation, I returned to Iran, received my permanent dental license, and began working as a licensed dentist in public and private clinics—giving my all to dentistry in the land of my birth for almost four years. At the same time, I also kept up my charity work during this period helping with various organizations and projects dedicated to helping the underserved in Iran as much as possible. I am very thankful for that opportunity to acquire hands-on experience, long hours, attending care to patients with scarce resources—as I learned a great deal that will always be with me. Working in public and private clinics allowed me to treat many diverse patients. I helped to discover and better understand my strengths and weaknesses as a dentist, working to correct the latter. I also attended several continuing education programs in different branches of dentistry in Iran, as I would continue to do after arriving in the USA. Upon my arrival in the US, I immediately began preparing to re-launch my career in dentistry, preparing for and passing the National Dental Board exams, for example. I have my heart set on being accepted to an advanced education program here in America because I see dental education in the USA as the innovative frontier of dentistry, and I could not be more eager to learn while taking full advantage of the vast resources of US dental schools and especially the state-of-the-art facilities. Most importantly, to hit the ground running in your distinguished DDS Program and excel, I have been giving my all to earning a master's degree in health services/sciences at the University of XXXX. I will complete this program before enrolling in dental school, and I see it as excellent preparation, especially since I want very much to practice dentistry in the USA in a way that compliments public oral health efforts geared towards attending to the underserved, those who have no resources or insurance to cover their dental care. As a graduate student at UXX, I have had the invaluable experience of becoming familiar with the American educational system while learning about American healthcare structures and processes. My GPA is currently 3.5. My heart will always be devoted to research; thus, serving as a graduate research assistant at XXXX University is a special honor and joy. I particularly appreciate the many things I am learning about research design and statistical software. As part of the curriculum in my Masters's program, I am currently in the process of completing the first of two internships in dental clinics in the XXXX area, shadowing both general dentists and specialists to familiarize myself with dental practices and options here in the US, learning how to operate the latest equipment being used in the local clinics, how the patient referral system works, drug prescription processes, as well as insurance coverage and services. Thank you for considering learning my application to your distinguished and competitive program. Observing the queue of those waiting for free dental treatment in a volunteer dental camp in India, I became accustomed to seeing swollen faces and pain-filled eyes.  This helped me better appreciate the importance of dental and oral health in people’s lives. If I had ever doubted my chosen path, the relief on the face of the first patient I ever treated would have instantly removed it. My interest in dentistry was prompted as a child when I needed to spend considerable time in the dentist’s chair. I was more interested than nervous and positively liked the atmosphere, the courteous staff, and the gleaming equipment. I decided then that it was something that I would like to do. My decision to pursue dentistry was not purely altruistic, naturally. Naturally, I hope to pursue a career where my efforts will provide sufficient rewards in financial terms. Still, I also have a genuine and passionate ambition to become an excellent practitioner providing the best care to patients in poorer countries. One of my most significant experiences occurred in dental school in India during my treatment and endodontics posting as an intern. I assisted in a full-mouth restorative case of a young female who had been unable to find a husband due to dental malformation. She underwent multiple restoratives and endodontic and surgical procedures. I witnessed a transformation in her self-confidence; she was married within a year of treatment. I have worked in free ‘dental camps and various facilities providing treatment to India's urban and rural poor centers. This was educationally valuable because of the variety of conditions presented and treated, but it also had an emotional impact that remains. I undertook procedures such as root canals, restorations, and extractions and provided education on preventing dental and oral diseases. These rural outreach programs taught me to practice dentistry with minimal facilities using hand instruments; this has improved my skill and digital sensitivity. While an intern, I had my first paper published in an international journal. The report related to ‘oil pulling’ using coconut oil as part of my research at ‘free camps’ in patient education. I won an award for the best paper at a national conference. I would be interested in researching this and other such ‘first aid’ dental treatments that might be self-administered or provided by ‘para-dentists’ in remote and poor communities in the Global South. After completing my degree, I returned to the US and sought to acquire as much experience in US dentistry as possible. I have worked as a dental assistant and volunteered with a highly experienced volunteer dentist. Working as a dental assistant has improved my four-hand dental skills. I have helped treat patients from various cultures and social backgrounds and have enjoyed relating to them. I am confident that my background, experience, and research interests will enable me to ‘add value to the program by sharing valuable and exciting insights. I look forward to benefiting from those acquired by fellow students. If selected, I promise enthusiasm; I am highly committed and active in participating in the program. • Saudi Prosthodontics Residency Personal Statement

I am writing on behalf of my application to give my all in your competitive combined Master of Oral Science & Prosthodontics Residency Program. I hope to be chosen because I am a hard worker who wants to give his all to your program. Since September 2014, I have been working as a Teaching Assistant in Oral Histology & Dental Anatomy in the Basic Oral Sciences Division of the Faculty of Dentistry at XXXX University in Saudi Arabia. Since dental school, I have increasingly gravitated toward Prosthodontics as my lifetime specialty for research, publication, and practice. My passion and enthusiasm for everything with Prosthodontics are my principal assets, as they motivate me to excel in my field. If selected, I assure you I am ready for long hours and exclusive devotion to dentistry throughout my residency. I have distinguished myself, particularly in creating outstanding treatment plans. I can figure out any case, no matter how complicated, brainstorming until I develop the perfect treatment plan. There is a solution for each challenge, and I relentlessly pursue optimal treatment. Especially when I am alone, my patients—past and present—are what I think about the most, especially in the most challenging cases. I also imagine the challenge and how I would respond to it. I even dream about dentistry, teeth, and the patient’s pain, waking up traumatized. If I am staring at someone, I look at their teeth because of how prosthodontics runs in my veins. I love the aesthetic aspects of dentistry, designing beautiful smiles, which I see as a signature. I look forward to participating extensively in ongoing research projects in your program. I am especially interested in research closely related to esthetic prosthodontics, particularly dental anatomy. Since my internship, I have increasingly developed my thoughts toward research in accordance with my clinical passion. Therefore, I challenged myself to write an initial manuscript for my internship research, and I did. I am particularly fascinated by developments in the differentiation of the size and shape of anterior teeth across various species and the relationship between teeth forms with face shape across various species. And that is why I look forward to mastering my research and clinical skills over many decades. My practice of prosthodontics consumes me; thus, I have an excellent basis or platform upon which I hope to distinguish myself as a researcher and clinician. Most of all, I want to become known for being a great prosthodontist, creative, and always working on new techniques, ideas, solutions, and theories. Being a team player is also central to my ethic of excellence, and I look forward to joining your distinguished team. Thank you for considering my application. • Prosthodontics Residency Implantology Canada

I ask for acceptance to your competitive MSc Program in Prosthodontics to serve as a foundation for the balance of my lifetime education in dentistry. I feel strongly that Prosthodontics is where I want to go from here to advance my education in dentistry. I have become a successful dentist in Canada only due to enormous hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I am a Korean man born and raised in South Korea and Germany; before immigrating to Canada at 18. English was my third language. It was an uphill climb to compete successfully in examinations and get accepted to and finish dental school. On top of the academic challenges, in 1996, tuition fees for dental schools tripled, and I paid for four years of dental school on my own by working part-time in various jobs. I am currently serving as the principal clinician at the XXXX Family Dental Centre in XXXX, Ontario, as well as the XXXX Dental Clinic in XXXX, Ontario. Probably what makes me most proud of where I am as a professional these days, however, and will provide me with some interesting subject matter to share with my peers in your distinguished program is my experience since 2011 as a Clinical Faculty member for the XXXX Implant Training Centres in Atlanta, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. I also have the privilege of serving as a member of the clinical teaching staff in the Department of Oral Radiology of the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of XXXX. Much of my volunteer work has been centered on athletic events, helping with the polyclinics at the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Vancouver in 2010 and again this year, 2015, with the Pan-Am and Para Pan-Am Games in Toronto. I look forward to a whole immersion experience in Prosthodontics that will enable me to excel as a dentistry teacher and increasingly engage with and devote my time to research and communicating our challenges to the next generation of oral health professionals. I am goal-oriented, focused, and very hard-working; I look forward to long hours studying Prosthodontics and learning as much as possible as a student in your program. I have dealt with various challenges while serving as an oral surgeon. I have founded three successful dental practices, two of which I own; thus, I am now in a position professionally and financially to devote myself to the full-time study of Prosthodontics. I am taking a logical next step by applying to your program since earning my degree and certificate in Prosthodontics will further enhance my ability to excel. I earned an MSc in Oral Implantology at the J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, and a writing a master's thesis. I look forward to sharing with my colleagues engaged in implantology and interested in European developments. My heart is very humbled to be on this journey. Most importantly, I am grateful to recognize this opportunity as the crowning achievement of two decades of devotion to dentistry. After thorough research, I have determined that the MSc in prosthodontics is the ideal program for me to continue to advance in my field. Completing your program will open my vision and transform me into a better clinician and leader. In your program, I will have the invaluable experience of witnessing how leaders can impact their fellow clinicians and society to illuminate the path for future generations. I look forward to studying and practicing a multidisciplinary approach to prosthodontics and focusing on how prosthodontics is connected or related to implantology. I am engaged with guided-surgery protocols, subsequent generation surface treatment on implant fixtures, and what some see as a change in thinking concerning current prosthodontic protocols to “One-Abutment, One-time,” as developed by Dr. XXXX at the J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. I see the triangle of Research, Technology, and Education as the ultimate platform for leadership, and I hope to become an innovator and a leader in Prosthodontists because of completing your distinguished MSc Program so that I might pass on the torch of discovery in dentistry to new generations of students. I thank you for considering my application to your distinguished and competitive program. • CAAPID Personal Statement Oral Cancer in India

Dentistry presented the perfect blend of the stimulation of academics with the satisfaction of human interaction; nowhere was this satisfaction more prominent than in oral medicine and radiology. I am an Indian dentist who hopes to be accepted for one of the limited spaces in your competitive DDS Program not only based on my experience in dentistry but also on the great passion that I have for oral health care education, especially concerning the prevention of oral cancer in my home country, India. For many years now, I have watched with deep dismay how a considerable proportion of the many millions of Indians that live on less than a dollar a day spend much of their income on tobacco products, chewing, smoking, or both. Most of these people eat only once a day to have enough money to buy tobacco. Eventually this leads to a miserable death from oral cancer for many. It is not surprising that oral cancer takes a staggering toll due to a lack of awareness or concern for the effects of tobacco use, combined with a lack of resources for health care. The problem is aggravated further by the fact that, within a few years, India is poised to pass China as the world’s most populous nation, with the highest oral cancer rates worldwide. My education in India was a sustained immersion experience in dentistry that lasted from September 2004 to May 2013, with the last three years spent earning my Masters's Degree (MDS) in Oral Medicine and Radiology. I learned about advanced modalities and radiographic techniques for the entire head and neck region, digital Orthopantomogram (OPG), CBCT, MRI, and radiotherapy for cancer patients. Posting in the Cancer Department of a government hospital, one of the biggest in Asia and a major Western regional center for cancer treatment and diagnosis in India, has been the highlight of my life.  I also volunteered in India, providing oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) treatment for those patients who cannot open their mouths because of tobacco chewing. Before moving to the USA, my professional duties with the Gujarat Cancer Research Institute as an Oral Diagnostician and Maxillofacial Radiologist included diagnosing pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of oral structure. Always acutely conscious that patients do not usually show symptoms of oral cancer at the initial stage, I was keenly aware of the life-death nature of what I was doing. As soon as I graduated from my master's program in Oral Medicine and Radiology, I was busy doing biopsies of countless patients suspected of having oral cancer. After my residency, I enjoyed working as an Assistant professor teaching India’s dentist of tomorrow. In addition to never failing to attend as many conferences as possible, I have published several articles and am devoted to lifelong learning, research, and publication. Most of my research concerns salivary glucose levels in Diabetic Patients. I look forward to further research, improving our unique abilities to care for diabetic patients. I have been engaged as a volunteer for several months with "Garden State Episcopal Community Development Corporation,” helping homeless people. I work in the food pantry, preparing and serving breakfast and lunch. I am also becoming involved in case management and finding government grants to help these people. I volunteered at the 9/11 Mega Blood Drive the American Red Cross organized.  Within a few days of my arrival in the USA, I was already shadowing as a volunteer at the dental clinics of Dr. XXXX and Dr. XXXX in Jersey City, where I remain until today, learning as much as possible from these gracious doctors. They have taken me under their wing. I also want to devote as much time as possible here in America to oral health public education and awareness campaigns, especially those geared toward helping the underserved. I find myself especially drawn to homeless people and their plight, both in India and the USA, and I hope to spend a great deal of my time and energy in this area. I thank you for considering my application to your competitive program. • International Dentist with 2 Master's Biology & MPA

XXXX University is my first choice among DDS Programs for International Dentists because of the sheer excellence of your program and the fact that your university has the most diverse student population in the country. As a dentist from India, I thrive on diversity and have made it a central theme while earning my MPA Degree here in the USA to advance my career. I earned my MPA at XXXX University (UXX) in New Jersey in May 2014. Since then, I have been studying toward my second master's in biology at UXX and will graduate in May 2016. After earning the DDS Degree, I look forward to many decades of treating patients as a dentist. I want to make my country of origin my principal focus in my efforts to help the underserved since India's need is so great. I trace much of my passion for oral health to my experiences with my maternal uncle, with whom I was close as a child. It was traumatic for me to watch him die while I was an adolescent, a slow, painful, agonizing death from oral cancer. A smoker, he also chewed tobacco products, and I soon realized that this problem is widespread. The widespread use of tobacco products has resulted in India having some of the highest oral cancer rates in the world. When one considers that India is projected to overtake China as the world’s most populous nation within a few years, one then understands the vastness and urgency of the problem. I see dental education in the USA as the most advanced innovative educational system globally, with the most technological promise and creative minds. In other words, India depends on the United States as a role model and a source of humanitarian assistance, especially due to American dental schools' outreach and solidarity programs. I look forward to working closely with such programs throughout my career. They are sorely needed in India to help us progress in the right direction, particularly in oral disease prevention and tobacco cessation. I look forward to teaching at some point in my career, at least in India, if not in the United States as well, given my devotion to lifelong learning, hoping to distinguish myself through intensive research in cell biology here in the US with a focus on fighting cancer at the cellular level. I see this as one of our most promising avenues of inquiry to help us struggle against oral cancer. I am a sincere and dedicated healthcare professional, staying abreast of developments in my field by reading literature diligently has always been one of my favorite activities of the day. Often, I do this before going to sleep and wake up thinking about what I read the night before. I have participated in student organizations as part of my academic life here in the USA and India. I especially enjoy meeting other students from other parts of the world. I left India in 2010 as a licensed and experienced dental surgeon and already having completed several internships. My first hands-on experience was in the best government hospital and dental college in Ahmedabad, India, and I also helped at several private clinics providing treatment to patients. These experiences provided me with an opportunity to practice and refine my skills. I am confident they have laid an excellent foundation for me to excel in your Advanced Placement DDS Program at UX. During my MPA program, I began shadowing one of my cousins, an orthodontist in Georgia, for three months in the summer of 2011. I also became a member of the Pi Alpha Alpha organization, a global honor society for public administration students with a GPA of at least 3.7.  I also began shadowing a dentist here in New Jersey and have continued to do so for the past two years, absorbing as much as I can about the practice of dentistry here in America. My father is a general surgeon back home in India, and my sister, who I am remarkably close to, is also a dentist practicing in Australia. Thus, much of my family life has inspired and empowered me as a dentist. While completing my master's degree in biology at UXX, I worked as a graduate assistant on campus at a fitness center. Helping the underserved whose need is the most desperate has long stood at the center of my work ethic and sense of professional identity. Throughout my dental education in India, I organized weekend dental camps and promoted and participated in community health promotion events. I have also long cultivated my leadership skills, and I pride myself on my lively personality and sense of humor, which I see as especially significant assets for dentistry. Thank you for considering my application to your competitive program for International Dentists. • Professional Writing & Editing Service International

My initial intention was to pursue a career in medicine. Still, an interest in dentistry developed when I witnessed close up the great misery that a dentist can alleviate. When training and practicing in India, I often saw grimaces of pain turned into smiles of relief and the dramatic and beneficial effects that basic instruction in preventative action can have. These experiences confirmed my choice of career. I am incredibly excited to be involved in a field with rapid technological and material innovation. I look forward to becoming increasingly efficient in future years as innovations continue to be adopted and applied. I aspire to qualify to practice in the US and work in a small, underserved community such as the one I was born in. I am particularly interested in applying effective preventative instruction to the general population, children, and the less advantaged in society. I hope to create relationships with schools and youth organizations to help educate the young on essential dental health. It is clear that there remains much work to be done in preventative education, and the key, I believe, is to start with the very young. I arrived in the US about 11 years ago at 16, and I learned to communicate in near-native English and excel as a professional, finishing High School with an overall GPA of 3.89. I intend to apply this proven diligence, determination, and intelligence to the program, excelling rather than merely succeeding. After returning to India and obtaining my BDS degree from the prestigious XXXX Institute of Research and Dental Science, I served an internship of 18 months. Also, I acted as a volunteer dentist in a jail. During this time, I acquired significant experience in routine dental techniques and sought exposure to more advanced work such as Root Canal treatments, digital radiography, and assisting professors in complex surgical procedures; I also participated in many dental health screening and diagnostic programs. I undertook much work directed at preventative instruction in the prison I served and in 33 villages. I found this work highly satisfying and was incredibly touched by the appreciation expressed by those we sought to help. I hope it might be possible to offer supervised dental treatment to members of disadvantaged communities or groups within the program. I have happily studied, worked, and socialized with people from many ethnic and social backgrounds. I enjoy relating to others, sharing knowledge of my culture, and learning about others. I currently undertake volunteer work for the Red Cross as a Front Desk Receptionist, which involves meeting and helping people. I greatly enjoy the constant exposure to people of many types. I also work part-time in a store helping people, and I seek to provide first-class customer service and show a readiness to ‘go the extra mile. I mix well and enjoy being able to help others. I enjoy volleyball, cricket, and art and have enjoyed some recognition of success in all these fields. My sports interests are not only a way of keeping fit but also a splendid way of making friends and having the satisfaction of being part of a team working toward a common goal. My achievements in sports illustrate how I am a ‘team player’ who seeks assistance when necessary and is always prepared to offer it to others. My artistic ability reflects a naturally developed manual dexterity which has assisted me greatly in my dental work. I am applying to this particular program because of the prestigious reputation of the faculty, its reputation for successful research, and the history of success of its graduates. I hope to contribute to the program, particularly concerning preventative education for the very young. I am a confident and amiable person who has demonstrated determination, diligence, and intelligence in my life to date, together with an ability to relate well to others. I have successfully undertaken all essential dental treatments during my training and enjoyed advanced dentistry exposure. I promise enthusiastic participation in the program and relish the prospect of sharing the fruits of my experience and profiting from that of my student colleagues and the faculty. • MSc Prosthodontics Canada Personal Statement

Statement of your academic and professional goals I am a young woman who likes to finish what she starts, and my academic goal is to earn an MSc degree at the University of XXXX. Unfortunately, I could not complete my Master’s in Prosthodontics before leaving my native Syria. I only had one year to go, and leaving was the most painful thing I have ever done, leaving my country, family, home, and temporarily my profession. Three years ago, the violence in Syria became brutal and indiscriminate. With increasing numbers of women raped and many people kidnapped, including—even significantly—health care workers, some for political reasons, others just for the ransom, often both. I did not want to abandon my studies in Prosthodontics in Syria, but my mother finally convinced me to flee the country with her, coming first to the USA; we are now settled in Canada. My English has improved dramatically, my life is again calm and stable, and I am returning to dentistry, precisely where I left off, by earning the MSc in Prosthodontics. I love British Columbia, the cool weather, and the natural beauty. Clean and exquisite, I take pictures all the time. I dream of someday returning to Syria to help set up a Prosthodontics Program once my country returns to peace and stability, which I imagine will be a long time. I would like to have the experience someday of teaching Prosthodontics in Canada. I would especially enjoy supervising and assisting students with their research; this has long been my dream. Giving presentations in my Masters's Program in Syria was the most rewarding time of my life, now frozen in my mind as if they were yesterday. I intend to meet my goals, following behind my grandfather and uncle, both dentists who taught me a great deal. My grandfather owned a dental supplies store and was the first to manufacture model jaws for training throughout the Middle East. Later, my mother improved the design and function of her father's training jaw. She was also the first to manufacture and add gingiva to training jaws in the Middle East. My uncle was the first in the Middle East to teach Implantology in 1989. He received his diploma from Harvard University and, at the time, was the only one authorized to teach other students this subject in the Middle East. My other uncle is a dental technician and helped me develop my laboratory skills. My uncle and mother used to tell me that I would be a great dentist because of my love for drawing and playing the piano; life as art and science at the same time. I was accepted to the dental program at XXXX University in 2004 when I was 17 years old, the youngest student in my class, earned many academic scholarships and prizes, and graduated in 2009 at the top of my class, beginning my MSc Program in Prosthodontics the following year. I want to produce novel improvements in Prosthodontics. I am convinced that your MSc Program at the University of XXXX is the optimal springboard upon which I can make my most significant professional contribution. It hurt me deeply the other day when I saw a beautiful young lady smiling with no teeth. I felt so powerless because I had a great urge to help her. I wanted to give her my phone number so she could come to my clinic like I used to do in Syria. My long-term dream, which goes back many years now, is to become a founding member of a community clinic specializing in Prosthodontics, where people with low income can come and have their smiles restored (for free or at a significantly reduced cost). The cost issue is especially critical in Prosthodontics because it is regarded as a cosmetic treatment and, therefore, not covered by patients’ health care plans. I also aspire to become the principal author of clinical books and articles in Prosthodontics, especially those related to TMD and perfect smiles, along with a lifetime of participation in dental conferences learning and sharing with other prosthodontists. I have two immediate plans: becoming licensed to practice dentistry in Canada, for which I have been studying extremely hard, and earning my MSc Degree in Prosthodontics at the University of XXXX. While studying Prosthodontics in Damascus, I felt thrilled every day despite the political situation. I love working with the materials we use in prosthodontics; I love being there daily. I enjoyed every moment of learning everything that I learned about Prosthodontics. I am now looking at your program's curriculum at the University of British Columbia, and I could not be filled with more extraordinary passion and readiness. I fully intend to excel in your program because I have nearly completed my master's in Syria. Many dentists I have met here in Canada are amazed at my advanced familiarity with implantology. Here in Canada, I have given lectures and labored to promote community oral health services, which could not have brought me greater joy. I love conveying ideas in straightforward, joyful ways that listeners, especially children, can remember. I cannot imagine not continuing to do this as well for the balance of my life. As soon as I arrived in the United States three years ago, I started volunteering to help at community clinics, and I have continued to do this for as many hours as possible. Windsor is a small town, and the transition was difficult. I am most grateful to Dr. XXXX for taking me under his wing and helping me to get situated and accustomed to my unfamiliar environment. Just spending time with another prosthodontist has been such a relief. He was most fascinated with the stories of my escape from Syria and could not have been more encouraging concerning my application to XXXX University. I live in downtown Windsor, and I am shocked by the number of people that have no teeth and need urgent cosmetic dental treatment. While I am not sure, I think many of these people are homeless from far away. I suffer from being unable to do anything for the millions of other refugees fleeing Syria, very few of which have been as fortunate as I have been. I am grateful to Canada, and I want to give something back by providing these people I see on the street in Windsor with new teeth. I want to see them taking their first selfie with their cell phone, the ear-to-ear smile, for some, the first in their adult lives. Your program is my first choice for continued study because of the research opportunities you offer, the highly international flavor of your student body, and your dedication to celebrating diversity. Thank you for considering my application. MSc Prosthodontics Canada Personal Statement #syriandentist #prosthodontics #residency #personalstatement #writingservice #examples

A dentist from India, I only recently moved to the USA on April 4, 2015. I am studying for my Master of Science in Healthcare Management at the University of XXXX in XXXX, California, and will graduate in May 2017. While I have always wanted to practice dentistry hands-on, I believe that my Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management will complement my DDS Degree since I hope to become a manager of dentists at some point in the future in my native India. In this way, I will be able to make my most outstanding contribution to helping the underserved in my country of origin, which is projected to overtake China soon as the most populous nation on earth. India has many challenges, with many poor people and a lot of oral cancer. Based on earning the DDS Degree here in America, I hope to practice dentistry in the USA and India. I have a dental license from India and worked as a dentist for two years before moving to America to advance my education so that I can become the finest dentist possible because of international training, hopefully earning the DDS Degree in the USA, where our field is the most advanced. I realized early on as a dental student that our medical equipment and technology in India were not comparable to the latest technology and procedures in the USA. I learned a lot about this because I have a close friend who completed his DDS in America and is now practicing in the USA. Being given a chance to excel in your program would allow me to spend a lifetime at the forefront of dentistry, fully immersed in the latest developments concerning dental procedures. After completing the DDS program in the USA, I want to work as a dentist in the USA for at least five years to become highly experienced. I am convinced that staying to practice in America will help me to make progress towards my long long-term goal of opening my clinic in India, offering the best dental care that I can to patients, rich and poor alike, with particular attention paid to those in most desperate need, without regard to their ability to pay. I want to start my NGO, do fundraising, and hopefully attract volunteers and open more clinics offering free services to the poor who cannot afford treatment. XXXX, my hometown in India, is where I hope to establish my first clinic. More than one hundred villages surround XXXX, and I daydream about expanding my reach so that someday many of these villages also might have clinics. I worked as a dentist for two years in India and have over six thousand hours of experience working with diverse types of patients. I am very patient and, at the same time, confident in performing dental surgeries. I also perform my surgeries fast without losing any quality in performing the surgery. It is essential to be fast and safe in surgeries since there are always a lot of patients to take care of every day in India. Growing up, I had three supernumerary teeth in the upper arch and one in the lower angle. Kids used to make fun of me. Then my dad took me to the Dentist at age 10, and I was treated for two and a half years. Getting my teeth fixed helped me gain the confidence to do better in school and improve every aspect of my life. Thus, for me, becoming a dentist was a natural choice. Another reason I hope to remain in America for several years after earning my DDS Degree is to pursue further study toward a specialization. Endodontics is my area of greatest passion and engagement. Hence, after completing your distinguished DDS Program for International Dentists, I also hope to earn a degree and acquire innovative discipline in this area. Thank you for considering my application. Foreign-Trained Advanced Placement Personal Statement #personalstatement #dentalschool #mha #healthadministration #editing #service #admission

My first choice for a residency program in pediatric dentistry is the XXXX School of Dentistry at XXXX University. I am currently working toward completing my DDS Degree. My central professional dream is to serve the balance of my professional life as a pediatric dentist working in a family dental practice while spending long hours at the local hospital caring for children with special needs. Dentistry and community are inseparable intellectually and professionally for me, with children standing at the center of my professional and moral frames of reference. The children in our community represent our future; many of them need and deserve our full support—including oral health care- since some have no parents and others have parents who have been unwilling or unable to care adequately for their children. At 26, single, never married, childless, dentistry and community are my life 24/7. UXX is my first choice to begin practicing dentistry for several reasons, not the least of which is that I am already a part of our academic community and, thus, feel that I am exceptionally well-positioned to excel in the program here. I also greatly appreciate how UXX is unsurpassed in the agility and effectiveness they coordinate pediatric dentistry across academic and hospital settings, particularly concerning trauma cases, compared to other California programs. I have already formed excellent working relations as a student in the program with many faculty members, who I would very much like to continue to see and have more significant opportunities to learn from as I advance in pediatric dentistry at UX. I have observed and helped in our pediatric dentistry clinic at UXX and have been involved with various causes. As a co-president of Pediatric Selective, we host several monthly meetings to discuss topics and pediatric-specific articles considering professional guidelines. We share updates on our cases since our last meeting to improve our ability to handle any challenging situation in pediatric dentistry. Patient management is the number one factor that distinguishes a great pediatric dentist. Our group is involved in numerous screening projects in the local community, particularly at schools. I have served at the UXX mobile clinic and helped organize unique events like the XXXX Outreach Clinic to deliver treatment for children with special needs. These activities have been most rewarding as I have more experience with children and, most notably, in treating children most in need of that care. Fast, thoroughgoing, and an expert at time management, I constantly progress in my clinical dentistry performance. With my active role in Pediatric Selective, I have had many community involvement opportunities, from screening children to providing treatment. Volunteering for the mobile clinic has given me some of my life's peak moments so far. I take joy in giving free, comprehensive dental care to kids whose families cannot afford it—serving as an Organizer and Clinical Manager of the XXXX House Outreach Clinic also provided me with the critically important experience of managing a team. I look forward to contributing to the diversity of dentistry at UXX as someone born in Iran who lived there until I was eighteen, when my entire family immigrated to the United States. We are Jewish, and Iran's political climate has become most repressive for our people, especially since we are discriminated against in education and employment. The USA was a fresh start; we began working and studying immediately. I am now a US citizen, and we have been in the USA for almost nine years. I have always been an excellent student, reflected in my grades at UXX, 3.94 in undergraduate (Biochemistry) and 3.8 in dental school. In addition to Farsi, I can read Hebrew and understand a little. Being selected for your competitive program would empower and inspire me further towards a professional lifetime of service combining private and public practice and attending to the needs of my own family that I will probably have someday, always at the same time that I give my very best to those children who are part of our community family. I look forward to long-term connections with kids from their first dental visit until they graduate high school. I want to spend much time at the local hospital caring for child trauma victims and researching as I hope to publish in this area. Nothing fires me up more than testing the use and application of new technologies, especially CAD/CAM). I am also interested in the use/indication and contraindication of different dental materials in pulpal treatment. Thank you for your consideration of my application. Throughout my school days in Malaysia, my parents could only afford two pairs of uniforms. Therefore, I would wash my uniforms every day after school and hang them outside the house to dry before the sun went down. During the monsoon season, I would leave my wet school uniform to dry underneath the refrigerator vent grill—waking up constantly all night long to flip it so it would dry evenly, arriving presentable but tired at school the next day. Nevertheless, I enjoyed going to school because it was an escape from the drudgery of home life. Since my father was a fisherman, I always had to help him gut fish and devein shrimp instead of doing homework or playing with friends after school. After cleaning the fish, I had to take care of my younger sister and four little cousins, for whom my mother babysat for extra money. By the time my cousins went home. The house was quiet; I was limited to only one hour of study/homework each night to save on the electric bill. I could not read by candlelight because it was too dangerous in our small wooden home. Despite the difficulties, I was always happy and satisfied. In 2002, I graduated from elementary school and became the first student to achieve a perfect score on the Malaysia National Examination for the 6th Grade. My success story as a fisherman’s daughter attracted the attention of Malaysia’s national newspaper, and I was interviewed, and my story published. A plaque honoring my achievement hangs at the entrance of our elementary school. Poverty can be an asset if one is diligent, clever, and able to recognize the opportunity. For example, a new educational policy was introduced in Malaysia in my first year of high school. All science and mathematics courses would be taught in English instead of Malay. I was in one of the first batches of students using the new textbooks. I borrowed the five science and mathematics books we were to use that coming semester from my best friend, whose family could afford to buy them. Then I copied them all by hand, one by one, throughout that summer break preceding the methods. (Fishing was good that year, and I was allowed to have the light in the room to read and write). In this way, I learned in advance and developed a beautiful handwriting style. While some parents could afford to pay for supplementary English language instruction, my parents could not. Understanding my science and math teachers in English was challenging because they barely understood the most basic English themselves and were as confused as we were. Nevertheless, I not only achieved another perfect score on the Malaysian National High School Examinations in 2005 but also went on to achieve new school records for examinations in the areas of Art, Math, and Science in 2007, with my achievements again published in Malaysia’s National Newspaper. Next, I was off to study in Singapore on a scholarship that only covered tuition. So I learned to survive independently, working all weekend at the Millenium Hotel as a banquet server: incredibly long, 14-15 hours a day for two days. Since there was no train service past midnight and we could not afford car service, my coworkers and I slept in the storeroom using tablecloths as our bed and blanket. I studied hard to succeed and earned second place in my cohort and a spot as a representative to USC as a visiting scholar. I had a wonderful time at the University of Southern California, and this experience enhanced my determination to succeed. I also met the man I would marry later during my time there. Four years ago, I returned to the United States to marry him and build a new life and home, working and studying. However, my husband lost his job, started doing drugs and alcohol, and I had to leave him. For several months, I often used the D-train like a mobile motel, from Coney Island to Brooklyn, to 205th Street in the Bronx, back and forth until the following day when I showed up at the College of Staten Island for classes. I authored an essay for the Cuny Intercollegiate Essay Competition about racial discrimination against new immigrants and abuse of women - and won first prize. I appreciate your consideration.
